The Blessing Of The Boats is a southern Italian tradition that dates back to the sixteenth century. Boats are decorated with flags and blessed by a priest to protect the crew and bring them good fortune. The Village of Walloon Lake is thrilled to be hosting it’s first annual Blessing of the Boats over Memorial Day Weekend.
Deacon Paul from St. Francis Xavier Parish will be performing the blessing on the docks of Walloon Lake’s marina for a safe boating season. The first (15) boats to arrive at the Blessing will receive a mini bouquet from Sweetwater Floral and a Walloon hat from Tommy’s Boats Walloon.
Enter your boat in a competition for the ‘best dressed’! Decorate and bring your boat to the marina for the opportunity to win a Barrel Back Restaurant gift card. There is no pre-registration required, boats will be seen and previewed day of the event.
The holiday weekend will be full of art, food, and great company. Blue Ribbon Event’s will also be hosting its 3rd Annual Wet Paint Art Show in the Village Green Park.
Come hungry because Barrel Back’s Food Truck will be making it’s first appearance of the year in the park to provide Memorial Day bites. All proceeds from the event will benefit local neighbors who need some extra support at this time.
