We’re looking for a Bookshop Operations Manager to help lead the day-to-day operations of the shop. This person will work closely with the owner to keep the bookstore running smoothly while helping grow our events, author relationships, and community presence.
The Bookshop Operations Manager oversees the daily operations of Dust & Blush Bookshop, including staff scheduling, event coordination, inventory management, and book ordering.
This role serves as a key point of contact for authors, publishers, and community partners while helping ensure the bookstore provides an exceptional experience for every guest.
The Operations Manager will work closely with the owner and marketing team to support the growth of the bookstore and its community events.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and reliable, with a passion for books and community-building. They are flexible, able to adapt quickly, and approach challenges with a positive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Oversee day-to-day bookstore operations including opening and closing procedures
- Manage book inventory and place orders through distributors and publishers
- Support the planning and execution of bookstore events including author signings, book clubs, and community programming
- Communicate with authors, publishers, and event partners regarding scheduling and logistics
- Assist with staff scheduling and support team communication
- Participate in interviewing and onboarding new team members
- Ensure the store remains clean, organized, and well merchandised
- Assist customers with book recommendations and create a welcoming store environment
- Support merchandising displays, signage, and seasonal book features
- Operate the point-of-sale system when assisting customers
- Help execute bookstore events including setup, coordination, and guest support
- Stay informed on new book releases, especially within romance and romantasy
- Support the Dust & Blush mocktail bar experience, including occasional shift coverage and helping develop creative seasonal drink offerings
- Passion for books and reading
- Interest in romance or romantasy books strongly preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Organized, proactive, and reliable
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team
- Comfortable using basic technology (POS systems, inventory tools, email, scheduling software)
- Previous retail, bookstore, or event coordination experience preferred
- This position will begin part-time during the pre-opening period
- Hours will increase as the bookstore enters peak season
- Some evening and weekend availability is required for bookstore events
- Applicants must be able to lift boxes of books and merchandise
- Reliable transportation is required
